Going For Gold - The Nokia 6700 Classic Gold Edition

Few mobile phones can make it to the top, whether in terms of features or in price, deservedly or not. Some mobile phone makers look to haute couture fashion houses in Europe to partner with and bring their chic upscale aura into the very pedestrian and utilitarian world of mobile phones.

You know a Prada mobile phone or an Armani phone when you see one. Their price tags are inimitable. Nokia isn't new to all this, and now, there's a Nokia handset that enters the world of the upscale prices by just donning a new set of clothes - 18k Gold finish to be exact. It's the Nokia 6700 Classic Gold Edition.

It's a head tuner alright. The Nokia 6700 is a fine looking slim and sexy phone that's already a head turning classic to start with. Put in some bling, and you have one that really hard to overlook. If you want a real status symbol or just love the feel of metal in your hands, this one is for you.

Targeting the Social Conscious Crowd

Nokia didn't mince words to admit that it's aiming to make a social statement with its overdressed handset. This is not the first time they took a pedestrian handset among their stable of fine mobile phones and housed it in a more fashionable case. This time around, it's in 18kgold. No, it's not solid gold, it's just plated, but it can really impress. That's what Nokia admitted, they want a mobile that can impress not only with its looks but also price point.

Features

The new handset features something new to distinguish it from its lowlier former self - a full metal navigational key mat and exclusive wallpapers. Apart form that, it's your basic Nokia 6700 Classic.

The Gold Nokia 6700 classic is still the same Symbian S40 6th Edition quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE on 2G and a tri band UMTS/3G with HSDPA/HSDPA data connectivity. You get the same 2.2" TFT LCD display with QVGA resolution and 16 million colors, accelerometer and ambient light sensor.

There's a 5 megapixel autofocus camera with 4X digital zoom, LED flash and VGA video recording at 15fps. Its multimedia functions kicks of with the same capable media players that play all the popular audio and video file formats. There's stereo FM radio with RDS, Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR and A2DP, noise cancellation features, micro US 2.0 and a built-in GPS receiver.

It has the usual microSD slot that can use up to 16 GB of external memory to augment its modest170MB internal memory. Its BL-6Q3 970mAh battery when fully charged can give the same 5 hours of GSM talk times, 20 hours of continuous music playback time and a standby time of 12 days.

Nokia 5730 XpressMusic

Nokia have always been the major player in mobile phones pretty much from the outset - although we're sure Motorola fans out there wouldn't agree!

Many of the models of late have become a bit of a hit and miss affair - Some good - N95 8Gb, some average - Nokia 5800 and some absolute dogs - Nokia 7610 Supernova.

Well, we're pleased to let you know that the Nokia 5730 XpressMusic is one of the most exciting handsets from Nokia for a long, long time - Too long in fact. It's crammed with features, it's good looking and it has a full slide out QWERTY keyboard too - Wow!

From the exterior, the Nokia 5730 XpressMusic looks just great. Smooth rounded lines, a neat & tidy keypad, dedicated music keys and large display make the Nokia 5730 a desirable beauty. But can it perform as good as it looks imply? It sure can baby!

As it uses the more advanced Symbian menu system, the 5730 is upgradable and it has more advanced features than a standard Nokia handset. It's fast & has a clear and intuitive menu. Need to send a lengthy e-mail? No problem, just .slide the 5730 sideways and a full keyboard is revealed for e-mails, web browsing and so much more besides.

The camera on the 5730 isn't the most advanced you'll find out there but, to be honest it's far more than adequate and will take some great photos and videos. It has 3.1 megapixels and has Carl Zeiss Optics for that perfect shot. It has an 8X zoom, full-screen viewfinder, autofocus, LED flash and flash modes. All of this can be shared in an instant by uploading to YouTube and/or Flickr.

The Nokia 5730 has A-GPS and GoogleMaps built-in, so you can use it as a SatNav device although the 2.4" display isn't exactly big enough to be used as a stand-alone SatNav device.

Nokia E70 Review

The Nokia E70 is a little heavier than the Nokia E62, but it incorporates a camera on the back (while the E62 has no camera) so the extra weight is called for.
